It was the winter of 1917 as the German Albatros fighter banked low over a mist covered marsh. The pilot's eyes were wide with terror, for down there he could see the dim shape of a man looking up at him. The figure cast no shadow - and his face was that of the British pilot he had callously murdered and dumped in the swamp several days earlier.
